Arend to lead surgical group

Current American College of Cardiology COO to start April 1 Arend Thomas Arend has been chosen as the new head of the $74 million-revenue American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, effective April 1. Arend will succeed veteran CEO, Karen Hackett, who is retiring after leading the organization for 14 years. Arend joins the Chicago-area AAOS from the American College of Cardiology, where he is EVP, COO and general counsel. He joined ACC in 2004 and has led the group through two CEO transitions.
